I'll have what he's having

Warning: This is a wordy one.

Dalton had the unfortunate experience of having a crown put on one of his back teeth this morning. Because he's 4, the kid's dentist medicates the young ones so they will be more likely to actually let the work be done (I certainly knew that this was the only way Dalton would let them do it and this sounded better than having to have to put him under in day surgery which was the only other option). Come to find out it is a Demerol cocktail. I didn't notice anything particular before he went into the chair, but then he got the gas. When I got to go in to see him after the dentist was done, he was laid back in the chair, legs crossed, chill as he can be. Here's where the fun began.

While waiting for me to check out, he kept asking me to help him climb up and touch all of the branches on the artificial tree above the bench he was sitting on . . . well, lounging on. When asked what type of milkshake he would like for breakfast, we entered an endless rotation of chocolate, no white, no chocolate, no white and on and on until we made it to Sonic where he knew that he wanted his favorite - the purple one (grape cream slush). He kept saying that something was wrong with his straw because he was having trouble because of the numbness. I explained 6 times before I gave up that it was his mouth and not the straw. He couldn't hold the cup between drinks, but then he would get dizzy when he leaned forward to get or give it back to me. Each time he would say "Whoooaaaa! I can't do that again!" then repeat it again must a minute later.

We make it to the interstate where he begins to tell me that the trees look really cool. As the road curves, however, he tells me I need to stop turning and stay straight on the road. Several buildings that he saw he said they were the dentist's office just to correct himself with "No, it's just a church (school, store). Mom, did you hear that I thought that was the dentist office. It was just a church." I'm keeping an eye on him in the rearview mirror and each time the sun comes through his window, he sticks his face to the window and says "Mmmmmmmmm, it's a hot day today." I swear if I would have opened the window, he would have hung his head out of the car.

We made it home and D asked for another favorite - bread with butter. They said he shouldn't have anything he has to chew but I caved because he's always hungry and he didn't get to have anything to eat or drink before the appointment. Well, he ended up eating 3 slices of bread with butter and a slice of yellow cheese (yes, he specifies). He sees the computer on the back of the couch and asks to watch the "Move It, Move It" song from the Madagascar movies. Here's where I completely lost my composure. He already knows all the words to it, but today, I got the complete song sung beginning with the "Bom, Bom, Bom, Bod-a, Bom, Bom Bod-a, Bod-a." He didn't miss a beat the entire song. Three times through this and he was out.

That was three hours ago. Considering that I needed to be a good mom and stay close, it was my duty to lay down on the floor beside him and it wouldn't hurt anything if I caught a nap too. I knew he was ok because I had forgotten to silence my phone and every time it chirped with a message, he'd let me know that I had a message on my phone. So now we are going to head to McDonald's because that is what I promised him for breakfast, but couldn't give him.

He's been excited about his day with just me and him all week and even got quite upset with Boyd last night when he said he might stay with us. Told him that he had to take Maggie Anne to school and then go to work. I know I'll blink and he'll be a teenager and embarrassed by me (which if you've read earlier posts, you know he has coming!) and not want to be seen with me. So, I cherish this time with my boy, even if he is flying high.

New twist on a Dalton favorite

Dalton LOVES to chase birds around the yard. Today's twist . . . as he ran up to each one, he yells "Heeeyyy Boo!"

Our Little Caterpillar

This is what Maggie Anne's favorite teacher, Ms. Mel, had ready for us this evening.

Can you tell that she'd had enough?

It's all in a name

Here's tonight's conversation with Dalton when my guys returned from the grocery store. It explains the name of this blog.

"Hey Mom! I was such a good boy at the store! I got an A+++! Now will you fix me some white cheese and chocolate milk?"

That's my boy!

Warmer weather is here!

Had to share these fun moments at Little Rock's PeaPotty (Peabody) Park

Not Toothless Forever

Just can't get enough of these toothless grins!

Parental Moment

So today my sister Elise and I take our kids to Disney on Ice. Not having his dad to go with him, Dalton had to use the "mommy bathroom." It was a while back that Dalton had his moment of clarity that boys and girls are different. He will readily tell you that boys have wieners and girls have . . . wait for it . . . belly buttons. Unfortunately today was another moment of clarity for my dear boy. After the show in a restroom full of people, there is a quiet moment so that the everyone can hear my son exclaim, "WHAT!?! Are you peeing out of your bottom?" I then made the horrible mistake of ignoring him. Failing to remember that he lacks the insight to know that I'm ignoring him, he assumes I did not hear him. So he repeats himself in a holler that was probably heard on the other side of the arena.

One might wonder why I would repeat if I was so embarrassed in the first place, but it's just one of those parental moments that you have to shake your head and laugh at - everyone else got to.

Easter Pictures

We had a great Easter at the Maher home in Mandeville. Boyd's cousin Hayley had a really cute idea and left a torn cotton ball trail to the Easter baskets. Dalton asked what it was. I asked what he thought it was. He thought about it and said it looked like hairballs.

Big Party

To end Arkansas Children's Week, Dalton's school was having a party - a "big party." So after spending the week counting down to the big party, Dalton wakes up Friday morning and we have this conversation:

Dalton: Is it the weekend? (this is asked every morning)
Jenn: No, the big party is at school today.
Dalton: OH! Like the day God made me!
